Ai talk in Aalto University
Just wrapped a 2-hour lecture on “A Designer’s Thoughts About Design and AI” in Aalto University.
What happens when design meets automation? Does anyone still care about design, and what about taste? What designers need to adapt to? Whats the possible future roles for designers?
The session wasn’t about having the answers but about keeping the conversation open. The truth is, no one really knows how design will evolve as AI becomes part of every workflow and every brief. What feels clear is that designers will need to adapt, not by competing with automation but by redefining what human design intelligence really means.
The students brought sharp questions and honest reflections. The mood in the room mixed curiosity with concern, a sense of standing at the edge of something transformative. There is uncertainty, but also a quiet confidence that designers still have an essential role to play as interpreters, critics, and meaning-makers in a world that risks becoming too efficient for its own good.
Thanks to the Peter McGrory and the design students for the sharp questions and conversations!
